Board Member
Dr. Noelle Orata, a co-founder of The Pathology Network, is a Consultant Pathologist who holds a Master of Medicine in Human Pathology from the University of Nairobi, MBChB from the University of Nairobi and is currently pursuing an MBA in Healthcare Management from Strathmore University with additional project management training in Global Health from the University of Washington.
She is a lecturer and the current Head of Department Pathology at a local Medical School and is involved in teaching and research in collaboration with other institutions. She is the Ecosystems Design Lead for Open Phences. She also is the Current Chairperson of the Kenya Association of Clinical Pathologists (KACP), Chairperson of the Children Sickle Cell Foundation (CSCF) and CSCF scientific committee member. She is a Trustee and member of the medical committee as a technical expert at Faraja Cancer Support Trust.
She offers technical advice on clinical care and laboratory management, health policy and research, quality assurance, and health systems optimization. She has served on several technical working groups most recently in COVID-19 preparedness supporting the Ministry of Health, Government of Kenya. She is a member of the East African Division of the International Association of Pathology (EADIAP) and the Association of Pathologists of East, Central, and Southern Africa (APECSA).She is currently leading a project funded by the Netherlands Embassy looking at understanding the healthcare ecosystem actors operating in Kisumu and Homabay Counties: A Stakeholder mapping and analysis exercise.
She is also involved in an evaluation under the Africa Health Diagnostic Platform (AHDP) looking at the design and implementation of Public-Private partnerships and assessing their impact on the delivery of laboratory services in Kenya. She supported the designing of a specimen referral system to link public and private labs and human and vet labs for the Ministry of Health, Kenya. She has been involved in market scoping as a part of Insight Health Advisors for Sierra Leone for the Frontiers Health Markets. Her interest is in Health systems strengthening with a focus on Laboratory systems strengthening in Kenya and globally with a lens through public-private partnerships and collaborations.
